Rich in culture, rich in heritage, rich in Buddhism, rich in rivers, mountains and forests ... Laos is a place of fascination and adventure amid a diverse and hospitable people.
Known as 'The Land of a Million Elephants' or 'Jewel of the Mekong' Laos is a landlocked country in South-East Asia, bordered by China and Burma to the Northwest, Vietnam to the East, Cambodia to the South and Thailand to the West. Laos is an ancient country but has also been greatly influenced by the French, being under French rule from 1893 – 1953.
It is ideal motorcycle country, being a thickly forested country consisting of mostly rugged mountains. The highest mountain is Phou Bia at 2,818m. The Mekong river forms much of the Western boundary with Thailand.
Laos is considered Southeast Asia's most pristine environment, the various cultures remain intact and the people of Laos are quite possibly the most chilled-out people on earth. Village life is refreshingly simple and even in Vientiane, it is hard to believe that this chilled out riverfront life exists in a national capital.
Take an amazing ride, through some of the most picturesque scenery of Laos including the unspoilt rainforests and peaks of central and northern Laos. This unique tour starts and finishes in Bangkok. The motorcycle tour element begins and finishes in Vientiane, capital of Laos. We then head to the magical valley of Hin Boun on the Colonial Route 13 and Route 8.
The Hin Boun valley is known for its magical scenery comprised of limestone karst mountains. The area was an important communist HQ during the Vietnam war controlling the central part of Laos. It has been recently opened up to tourists and the HinBoun River now offers a unique experience with the famous Kong Lor Cave which once used as a secret base by the "Pathet Lao".
Kong Lor’s claim to fame is that it boast’s the world’s longest navigable cave at 8km from mouth to mouth which has been created by the Nam Hinboun River which over the millenia has tunneled its way through the surrounding limestone karsts peaks.
We will follow part of the once infamous Ho-Chi-Minh Trail to the famous and mysterious Plain of Jars. Then onto Mont Boom Long (once a CIA secret base) before heading to the small town of Vieng Thong. On the way we will meet some of the remote but extremely friendly hill tribes.
Experience the unforgettable trail of the Phou Xeng peaks, while heading to the former historic royal capital, Luang Phrabang.
Enjoy an awe-inspiring ride through the “1000 curves” of Phou Khoun’s Peak to Vang Vieng.
Finish the last leg of the journey on a Mekong trail while riding back to the capital.
This exciting expedition covers a distance of approx 1,100miles on either paved roads or a mixture of paved and dirt roads depending on the wishes of the clients.
With our experienced team and local guides accompanying you, we are able to cater for all types of riders. Providing you have a full Category A motorcycle license and ride fairly regularly you will be able to participate on this tour.
